We have recently been in touch with Sonia Sanghani, a UK-based author, and her upcoming book, “Stumps and Cranks - an introduction to amputee cycling”. She was already aware of Reverse Gear, having connected with Judi first several years ago.
Her work sounds like a very helpful resource - “This book is a first attempt at encouraging amputees to discover more about cycling – an enjoyable form of exercise that allows you to become closely connected with the thrills of pedalling around on two or more wheels. Designed to be read by adults and older children or families it sets out the basic elements of equipment, instruction and points of general care and attention advocated by cycling and health professionals who deal with such aspects on a daily basis.”
There are so many ways that bikes and trikes, uprights and recumbents, are modified and adapted and redesigned and built to suit an individual’s needs and Sonia is trying to round up all the information into both a single new book and also a growing online resource at - www.stumpsandcranks.co.uk. She is drawing together links to other books and magazines, associations and organizations that can all help to get you riding.
We wish her well with the book and look forward to it being published in Spring 2016. We intend to stay in touch and encourage you to go take a look at Sonia’s site, too.
