Recumbent race in Ontario

We have mentioned the Overdrive Race and Relay Series a couple of times on our blog (when we first heard about the event and when we announced that we are sponsoring the recumbent race). It’s only about seven weeks away now and we’re getting pretty excited!

The event is a range of on- and off-road riding and running races held at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (previously Mosport), near Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on October 29 and 30, 2016. Mountain biking, road cycling, trail running, road running and road running relays all feature. The event itself only started in 2015 and we are thrilled that a recumbent race has been added to the schedule for this year - the Low Rider 50. Recumbent bikes and trikes, handcycles, velomobiles - all kinds of ‘bents are welcome. Also new to the 2016 schedule are a kids 1km run, a mountain bike duathlon and a charity ‘at your own pace’ ride around the track in support of Soldier On.

We’re pretty pumped at the opportunity to ride the track - we’ll be taking part ourselves. This is also the only recumbent bike race in Canada which is why we were happy to be the race sponsor for the Low Rider 50 itself.

The event race fee for any of the races also includes a sweatshirt, lunch, beer and race-day insurance. That’s the standard package from the organizers of Overdrive Race & Relay.

However, we have got together with Hamilton Trike & Bent to arrange a special additional gift bag for anyone taking part in the Low Rider 50 recumbent race! It will feature some items from us and Hamilton T&B and we’re also working with other companies on items for a raffle draw too - for example, those awesome British trike folks at ICE will be providing a t-shirt for the raffle and we’re still seeing what else we can add and who else we can involve!

We will also provide a Team RG jersey for the first ever winner of the Low Rider 50!

While all of the racing is on Sunday October 30, it is actually a weekend event. On the Saturday, October 29, there will be a vendor expo in the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park event center where you can view the track, register and meet vendors, sponsors and other participants.

We will be there with a booth displaying our gear, checking out the track and generally hanging out with other ‘bent enthusiasts. Come chat and race at this brand new recumbent event on October 29 and 30. There are discounts at the local hotels - be sure to check out the accommodation section of the event’s website.
