The inaugural Port Dover Pier Ride took place on September 21, 2019. As mentioned already on our blog, we set this event up with Cora Muis at Hamilton Trike and Bent as an opportunity for recumbents to come together in South Western Ontario for a social ride. It wasn’t intended to exclude other bikes, though, and we had a few uprights come along as well.
Excitingly, we had a wonderful mix of recumbents take part - Terratrike, ICE, AZUB and Catrike trikes along with Cruzbike and Schlitter recumbent bikes; one of the ICE trikes was e-assist; there was even a recumbent tandem!
Later: one of the riders taking part treated the day as the reason for a nine day tour in SW Ontario! Bill Gaw rode from Toronto over several days to take part, before riding back - covering over 500km by the time he got home.
You can read about his mini-adventure and see plenty of pictures on the way at the following link, check it out - https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/22547. Bill, thank you so much for taking part!
We’d like to thank Cora Muis and Joel Houghton for their help organizing the event beforehand and on the day as well as Cora and also Bruce Hamilton for the above pictures.
We hope everyone enjoyed taking part - thank you for travelling to the Wind-del velodrome and taking a chance on this brand new ride. Watch this space next year, we think this will be happening again!
