Battle Mountain was taking place last week. If you haven’t heard already (and it got a lot of media coverage, quite rightly), records were broken this year.
The new world record for human powered speed is a jaw-dropping 86.65mph (or 139.45kph). Yes, a blink shy of 140kph under human power. Consider that next time you’re driving on a major highway and are around 100kph or so. And, ah… it was a Canadian team. Oh yes. You can read more about Aerovelo and their bike, Eta, at their site. They have a lot of experience with harnessing human power as they also won the Sikorsky prize for their human powered helicopter in 2013.
Checking our events calendar for activities coming up, it’s nearly time for the Recumbent Cycle-Con on September 25-27 in Ohio and then CUBE, the Chicago Unconventional Bike Expo on October 2-4 in Illinois:
The Recumbent Cycle-Con is the largest recumbent event in the world. You will have the opportunity to see all the newest recumbent bikes, trikes, tandems, gear and equipment at the show!
CUBE is the nation’s largest show for recumbents, recumbent tricycles, quadracycles, folding cycles, tandems, family cycles, velomobiles, transporters, electrical bikes, special needs bikes, adult kick scooters, child and load trailers, customized designs and accessories.
Later in October is the Toronto International Bicycle Show. We’re going to be there this year, although only as visitors. But if you see us in Reverse Gear clothing, be sure to say hello!
For any more information on these events, be sure to check out our calendar.
